More Plaid-ish Quilts

I know I’m not the only one. Sometimes a quilt pattern comes along that just makes you happy and you want to make multiples. Such is the case, for me anyway, with the Plaid-ish Scrap Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting. I have just completed my fourth quilt top using this pattern, but I think I may have finally gotten it out of my system. You know how you think the scrap bin is getting smaller because you’re using so many of them? Then, after doing 4 of these quilts, why does it seem like no dent has been made in it at all? LOL

Over the last month I went to see Tracey at Whirls’N’Swirls Quilting to quilt my two remaining Plaid-ish quilts. The first one, done in my usual brights, is the one for the sleeping cabin at the cottage (to go with the Flying Geese quilt from last year), and the second is for a gift done in colours I rarely use unless it’s for someone else, as in this case. My friend Trudie was getting rid of a large part of her stash so I was able to snag these fabrics from her since I very rarely sew with earth tones.

The pantograph Mimosa by Urban Elementz was used for the bright quilt along with Wonderfil’s Polymatte thread in colour # PML-512, a gorgeous tealy turquoise. The pretty backing fabric is Brush Strokes by Marshall Dry Goods. I’m not yet sure what binding I will put on this quilt, but our guild’s Staycation is coming up soon so I’ll probably stitch it on while I’m there. I’m thinking a nice deep purple will be just right.

The second Plaid-ish quilt was quilted with Glide thread in colour # 20467, Caramel, using the pantograph Simplicity by Lorien Quilting. The soft, swirling machine quilting design was the perfect foil for this very angular, geometric quilt. The backing was Cuddletex (in the colour Sand) that I got at Ultimate Sewing Centre. Maybe a medium brown for the binding?

it blends with the carpet!

I also wanted to show you what Becky did with this pattern. She just sent me a photo of her Plaid-ish quilt, but only done with three fabrics…a light, a medium and a dark…and look how effective it is! So, it clearly can be done with fewer fabrics and still be stunning. Great job, Becky. Patti wanted to know why there was no red in this quilt!

I know you’ll enjoy making this quilt if you want to give it a try, but be forewarned…you think you’re whittling down the scrap pile, but you’ll be sorely mistaken. LOL.
