Staycation 2026

The Twisted Stitchers QG had a very successful Staycation recently. Thanks again to our organizer, Linda, for a wonderful time together with games, prizes, and even her yummy homemade chili! We, our group of 15, start around 9 am each day and go till about 8 pm when everyone leaves to go sleep in their own beds. It’s the best of both worlds…sewing and spending time with each other during the day and then getting home to relax in front of the tv with bras off! LOL

As usual everyone was very productive working on many diverse projects during our three days together, so I know you will really enjoy seeing the results of our efforts. Some people worked on numerous donation quilts for charity while others worked on projects for loved ones.

Penny not only worked on a beautiful hand-appliqued design, Sunflowers, from an old magazine (The Quilter, May 2005, no longer in print), but she had a wonderful technique that she uses when working on hand applique. Penny places a large throw cushion in her lap and leaning up against the table to help support the applique. This takes a lot of stress off of her hands and also relieves the stress in her neck so she’s not bending her head forward quite so much. What a great tip!

Linda K completed the beautiful Taylor Beach Bag by Uh-Oh Creations using a great Tula Pink print and a PVC coated mesh so that the towels can dry out a bit and sand from the beach has a chance to escape before she gets back to her room. I forgot to ask if this is for an upcoming trip, so hopefully she has a chance to use it soon.

Linda wasn’t the only one making a bag. Indra, a new member to the guild and a newer quilter, made her very first bag and even learned how to sew in a zipper. She did such a wonderful job!

Bonnie worked on a really great hockey quilt for some lucky young person. Bonnie and Danuta often make quilts for the wonderful charity, Project Linus. Their mission is “to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need of a hug” and they collect blankets and quilts for this very reason. It’s a great charity to be involved with, especially for quilters who want to share their craft.

Danuta made the quilt “Molly” from the book 3 Times the Charm- Book 2 using the most adorable cat and dog fabric. Some lucky recipient is going to love it. I wonder if this too is for Project Linus. I love the two different coloured borders.

Chris completed Nevada by Villa Rosa Designs and even used her signature circle quilting that is easy to see in the photo. Chris has been using this technique for many of her smaller quilts and they always turn out great. I think she even talked a couple of the other ladies into giving it a try.

Janet’s peeking over her awesome Bricks quilt that incorporates rectangles and squares. What a great way to use those odd bits of larger scraps and fat quarters.

Judy made Hopscotch by Fabric Cafe using a wonderful sewing themed fabric in the border and the most gorgeous tealy blue for the inner borders and squares, showing that a very simple design can be striking.

Marg made her own beautiful Plaid-ish quilt in brown tones. Now you can see why I love this pattern so much…it looks wonderful in any colour scheme.

Linda S made the cutest Biscuit Ball for one lucky baby. It was fascinating watching her make it as she had to stop in between sections to stuff the squares before sewing the next unit on…so cool!

Ingrid made something very special for her hubby. His favourite colour is purple and he is obsessed with the sport Cricket. She was able to use the purple on the front with a beautiful grey and actually was lucky enough to find a fabric for the backing that has cricket bats and balls on it. I know he’s going to love it.

I worked on a couple of charity items, and finished more blocks for the Bears Paw quilt which I will show later when it’s finished. Everyone at guild really looks forward to our annual Staycation. Thanks again, Linda K, for organizing such a wonderful few days for us.
